Martin Kaufmann

Raised on a small farm in rural Wisconsin, I realized that working with animals was something I enjoyed doing.

I received a degree from Century College, an extension of the University of Minnesota, in Prosthetics and Orthotics. After graduating, I worked for two years in a privately owned O & P facility fabricating, researching and designing braces and artificial limbs for the two-legged friends. This led me to the Shriners Hospital for a rewarding career working with crippled children. My next stop was Denver, CO. Here I managed a Foot clinic after having received certification in the field of Pedorthics from Temple University.

In my new position in a traditional orthotic and prosthetic company I am instrumental in fabricating orthotics and prosthetics, as well as seeing patients with foot and ankle problems. Although I specialized in the lower extremity, hip, knee, ankle, and foot, my versatility and positive outlook lends itself to seeing a variety of different types of patients.

All of these experiences gave me the tools to also work in the world of animal orthotics and prosthetics with our four-legged friends.

My work with animals began when my cousin's Schnauzer, Walt, had a stroke and was admitted to a veterinary hospital in Colorado. The vet thought Walt could benefit from a brace because surgery was not an option. This was the beginning of an amazing new career, helping animals improve their quality of life. Many orthotic and prosthetic devices, and many referrals later, my practice has grown coast-to-coast and internationally.
